WSC Fall High School Regatta
WSC’s high school sailors wound up their 2007 fall season
with an informal regatta at the club Oct. 27. In near perfect conditions
(bright sunshine and 8-10 knot breeze), eight crews competed in eight tightly
contested races. It was an impressive display of boat handling skills as
the young sailors showed off the results of thrice-weekly practice since
mid-September. Hard to believe that those acrobatic roll tacks and crisp
mark roundings were being performed by kids who were beginning sailors just
six weeks ago!
Everybody sailed well, and at the end of the day it was the Lincoln High
School team of Aegir Olsen and Madeline Luce that emerged on top, with St.
Marys girls Monica Mader and Liza Holtz coming in second.
A great big thanks to parent volunteers Dave Moran and Dave Cannard for
manning the committee boats, Sean Kane and Vern Luce for the
terrific photos, and
Allison Fryer, Darla VanBergen and Jan Miner-Kane, who supplied the scrumptious
food and helped clean up after. And an extra special great big thanks to
organizer-in-chief Rose Burris for putting together another wonderful event
for the kids!
