11/16/08 Great Oaks ReportMore than 200 high school sailors from all over the country descended on the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans Nov. 15-16 for the 2008 Great Oaks Regatta. WSC was well represented by Aegir Olsen, Madeline Luce, Monica Mader, Scott Van Bergen, Andrew Cannard, AnnaLena Robinson, and Greg Moran. No racing took place Saturday due to high winds. 16 Races were sailed on Sunday in a light, shifty northwest breeze with moderate to heavy chop. Congratulations to the St Edwards High School team from Vero Beach Florida on their 25 point victory. Thanks to Coach George and parent chaperones Jan Robinson and Dana Olsen for bringing our kids home safely! (results, photos)10/12/08 Morning Light Benefits WSC YouthWSC high school and youth sailors will be among those benefiting from ticket sales for the new Disney sailing epic "Morning Light." The WSC crew showed up in force to see the special premiere showing in Portland Oct. 12 with filmmaker Roy Disney and Morning Light crew members. Proceeds from the premiere will go to youth sailing programs in the Portland area, including WSC's new Oregon Youth Sailing Foundation. Thanks to Steve and Nancy Rander of Schooner Creek Boat Works for sponsoring this great event!9/7/08 2008 NWISA Singlehanded ChampsOn a picture perfect September weekend in the Columbia River Gorge, 13 high school sailors from all around the Northwest battled it out for the right to go to the 2008 High School Singlehanded Championships next month in New York. Mitchell Burke and Monica Mader led the WSC High School Sailing contingent (full report, results, photos).4/20/08 WSC Sailors Rock at District Champs!WSC High School sailors from Lincoln High and St Marys Academy placed 4th and 7th respectively at NWISA District Doublehanded Championships at Friday Harbor, WA, April 19-20. The crowd nearly put the WSC docks underwater, while 80 degree sunshine sent most of the kids splashing into the river (full report, results, photos)4/6/08 WSC sailors survive Dogfish Bay!Eighteen WSC sailors made the journey north to Poulsbo, WA, April 5-6 to get their first taste of team racing at the Dogfish Bay Regatta. Despite cold and blustery conditions, they plunged right in (sometimes literally! read the full report, see the photos) 10/27/07 WSC Fall High School RegattaWSC’s high school sailors wound up their 2007 fall season with an informal regatta at the club Oct. 27.
