Benefits to Joining WSC
As a member of Willamette Sailing Club you have the ability to use the facilities, take part in many club social events and racing, and keep your boat on the Willamette River for easy use (subject to moorage fees as outlined below). Sailing club members also receive a discount on classes at our sailing school, Willamette Sailing School.
Joining WSC
To join Willamette Sailing Club, you can fill out this membership application form. Return the application along with the initiation fee to our membership coordinator, Allison Blakemore. The membership coordinator will then present your application to the Board of Directors who will then vote on approving your application (Board meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month). Once the Board approves your application, you can be sworn in at the next club meeting. After your application is approved, you will be introduced to the membership and sworn in as a new member.
Membership Options
There are eight classes of members:
Regular Member
Regular Membership is open to anyone over the age of 21 with an active interest in small boat sailing, regular Members are entitled to full rights and privileges of club membership, including the right to vote and hold office. Club privileges, including the use of club facilities and eligibility to participate in club activities, shall extend to the Regular Member's spouse and children under the age of 21, except that each Regular Member family unit shall have only one vote. Regular Members must own a boat. Charter members of WSC shall enjoy all the rights, privileges and responsibilities of Regular Membership. Regular Members must fulfill the full work hours requirement (10 hours/year of which 2 can be from Race Committee - 1 hour for each assignment). New Members who join after April 1 must complete 50% of the work hour requirement prior to October 1. Those who join after June 30 will begin their work hour responsibility on October 1 of the same year and are responsible for the full work hour requirement.
Midshipman
Midshipman Membership is open to anyone over 18 years of age who has not yet reached his or her 25th birthday. Midshipman Members shall enjoy all the rights and responsibilities of Regular Members except that they shall not be eligible to vote or hold office. Midshipman Members must own a sailing dinghy and be an active participant in club sailing activities. Midshipman Members must fulfill the full work hours requirement. New Midshipman Members who join after April 1 must complete 50% of the work hour requirement prior to October 1. Those who join after June 30 will begin their work hour responsibility on October 1 of the same year and are responsible for the full work hour requirement.
Youth Member
Youth Membership is open to anyone 17 years of age and younger, but who has reached his or her 7th birthday, and who has the sponsorship of a Regular Member. Sponsor shall be a Regular Member in good standing who shall agree to provide guidance, advice, and assistance to the Youth Member. Those Youth Members aged 7-11 years old must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian, or be involved in an organized club program such as Sailing School, Junior Program, and/or Youth Fleet activities while on club grounds. Youth Members enjoy the privileges of club membership, but cannot vote or hold office. Participation in Junior Program or Youth Fleet is required for those Youth Members not owning their own sailing dinghy. Youth Members and/or their parents must fulfill the full Club work hour requirement. Neither dues nor work hours are prorated for new Youth Members. Parents or guardians of Youth Members are responsible for the actions of their children.
Associate Member
Shall be a Regular Member in good standing who because of business, health or other reasons is unable to regularly use the club facilities. Persons wishing to be considered for Associate Membership must present their requests to the Board giving explicit reasons in writing. Upon approval, this status will continue until the member requests Regular Membership, resigns or is dropped for non-payment of dues or for misconduct. Associate Members may become Regular Members again by notifying the Board of Directors of their intent and by paying the current annual fees, providing the membership limit has not been reached. An Associate Member shall not hold office, exercise a vote, be entitled to moorage, use of the ramp and/or launching facilities. An Associate Member shall not act as helmsman and/or skipper of any boat participating in any racing activities sponsored by this club. (When this rule conflicts with current operating policies, current operating policies shall override.) An Associate Member participating in social functions of the club shall provide services and/or material the same as requested of Regular Members. Associate Members are excused from the work hour requirement.
Non-Resident Member
A Member who resides more than 100 miles from the club grounds may be a Non-Resident Member. Non-Resident Members may become Regular or Associate Members by notifying the Board of Directors of their intent and by paying the current annual fees, providing the membership limit has not been reached. Non-Resident Members are excused from the work hour requirement.
Honorary Member
On recommendation of the Board, a majority vote of the members present at any regular meeting may grant Honorary Membership to a deserving person. This membership will carry all privileges except the right to vote. Honorary Memberships shall be limited to a period of one year, unless extended by taking another vote. Honorary Memberships will be excused from the work hour requirement.
Senior Member
Has been a Regular Member for at least five years. Must be 60 years old or more. Authorized to vote. Authorized to hold office. Pays dues at a rate of 50%. Responsible for 50% of work hour requirement. Must request this category from the Board. Must pay all fees and bonds in full.
Training Member
A training membership is a temporary membership just for the purpose of taking sailing classes at the club's Willamette Sailing School. It is effective for 60 days.

Costs
Initiation Fee
Except for the conditions stated in Item 4. below, an initiation fee of $400.00 is required of all members upon acceptance into Regular Membership.
The initiation fee shall be waived for Midshipman members until their 25th birthday. A reserve fund shall be established for each Midshipman upon acceptance into membership for the purpose of making annual payments toward the initiation fee. Upon reaching the age of 25, the balance in the Midshipman's reserve fund shall be applied to the initiation fee for Regular Membership. If the reserve fund balance is less than the amount required for initiation, the Midshipman shall pay the balance due. Payments to the reserve fund are non-refundable and shall be used for the purpose of paying the initiation fee for Regular Membership. The annual reserve fund payment shall be not less than $50.00.
No initiation fee is required for Youth Membership.
Any person who has been affiliated with WSC as a part of a Regular Membership; may within 90 days of reaching the age of 21, become a Regular or Midshipman Member, by making application, paying current dues, and initiation fee as follows:
if affiliated more that 5 years, then 0% of initiation fee
less than 5 and more than 4, then 20% of initiation fee
less than 4 and more than 3, then 40% of initiation fee
less than 3 and more than 2, then 60% of initiation fee
less than 2 and more than 1, then 80% of initiation fee
less than 1 year, then 100% of initiation fee.
When applying for Regular Membership, the applicant will pay the appropriate initiation fee at the time of application.
When applying for Midshipman, applicant will pay a minimum of 25% of the appropriate initiation fee at the time of application and each year thereafter into a non-refundable reserve fund (see Item 2 above) until such time as the applicant reaches 25 years of age, at which time the amount in the reserve fund will be used to pay the initiation fee.
Dues
Annual dues for Regular Members shall be $380.00 for the period starting January 1 through December 31, with the option of quarterly payments.
Annual dues for Midshipman, Youth, Senior and Non-Resident Members shall be set at one-half (1/2) of the current dues requirement for Regular Members.
Annual dues for Associate members shall be one-third (1/3) of Regular Member dues.
First year dues shall be prorated on a monthly basis, starting with the month of acceptance into the club membership.
Fee Schedule
Annual Dues $380.00 Payable by January 1st. Dues may be paid semi-annually (due on January 1 and July 1) with a service charge of $2.50 added to each late payment. Quarterly payments are also an option.
Initiation Fee $400.00
Assessment for work hours not done $250.00 (Maximum at $25.00 per each of 10 hours)
Monthly Boat Storage:
Pull-out (dock) storage $ 50.00
Lot Storage $ 40.00 (over 18' is $60)
Rack Storage $ 20.00
Wet moorage $ 3.00/ft.
