US Sailing Judges Workshop and Exam
This is a sanctioned US SAILING JUDGES WORKSHOP and EXAM that is required for initial certification and re-certification as a US Sailing Judge. It is also helpful for those who want to learn more about what goes on in the Protest Room. This program is not a basic rules instruction course. Basic knowledge of the Racing Rules of Sailing is needed to get full value from the program. The workshop will include an extended session on interpreting Rule 18 and several interactive and role-playing segments.
The workshop will begin at 0830 each day and last until approximately 1600. It will cover a variety of topics necessary for successful judging such as:
- Techniques involved in running good hearings
- Discerning and documenting facts found and decisions
- Handling of contentious issues
- Arbitration
The lead moderator for this workshop will be Charlie Macaulay (Regional Administrative Judge, Area L). Additional experienced judges may also lead several sessions.
